Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science
Stony
Brook Univeristy in New York established a center for science
communication in 2009 that was recently named for famed actor Alan
Alda. The mission of the center is to teach scientists how to
communicate their work to the public in a way in which their audience
can understand. The skills taught at the institute have proven
to be helpful in securing funding, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration
and effective teaching methods. June 11-14 the Center will be
hosting it's summer institute. If you are interested in more
information, please visit their website.

We're Social!
The
Office of Sponsored Programs is now on Facebook
and Twitter! We hope to provide
these as additional informational channels for you to tap into
advance notice from sponsors on upcoming grant opportunities and
real-time research news. We also hope to add a blog feature and
YouTube instructional videos and "researcher-on-the-street"
interviews on research or grant-related topics. Stay tuned for
more information in an upcoming Research Roar. As always,
please feel free to send us your ideas for what would
be helpful features in any of our expanding communication venues.
