From the Director

Greetings, Clemson Colleagues!

With this edition of Research Roar, the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is  expanding distribution to Clemson University faculty, in order to share funding information across all academic units.

Research Roar is published every Wednesday, and features select funding opportunities that are multidisciplinary in nature, or that may have broad appeal across campus.   In addition, updates from federal agencies and private sponsors are also included, along with grantsmanship education sessions as they are scheduled.  We hope that Research Roar inspires thoughts on seeking external funds to support your research, scholarship or creative activities and provides helpful resources and information that enables you to successfully secure funding for your area of inquiry.   We also invite you to share your ideas for future features to include in Research Roar.  Please send any thoughts or suggestions to Mandy McClasan.

We hope you enjoy this issue of Research Roar, and look forward to working with you in the future!

         Sheila Lischwe, Ph.D.
         Director, Office of Sponsored Programs

Michelson Grants

The Michelson Foundation Prize and Grants were established in October 2008 by Found Animals Foundation, with the goal of developing a non-surgical sterilant for cats and dogs, a product that experts agree is the key to making shelter euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets a thing of the past.

The Foundation seeks proposals for up to $250,000 per year for up to 3 years of funding for research in pursuit of permanent contraceptives for male and female cats and dogs.  Additionally, the Michelson Prize seeks to award $25 million to the first entity that provides Found Animals with a safe, effective and practical non-surgical sterilant for use in cats and dogs. Proposals are invited from investigators in a wide array of fields, including, but not limited to,  Biology, Biotechnology, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, immunology, reproductive biology, chemistry and endocrinology.  More information on these awards may be found on their website.

eRA Enhancement: Meeting Date Available Earlier to PIs on Status Information Screen

Investigators submitting applications to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) can now see the date of the Study Section Meeting as early as it is available in the eCommons system, rather than only 30 days prior to the  date of the meeting.  This change provides more lead time to assemble and provide post-submission materials for consideration by reviewers.  The meeting date will be viewable from the eCommons Status screen.

Should you have any questions regarding any NIH policies, please contact the Office of Sponsored Programs.
