How Will your Student Leave their Mark at Clemson in the 2016–17 Year?
The Office of Advocacy and Success is excited about the 2016–17 academic year and the opportunities a new year brings, including opportunities that allow for reflection, preparation, connections and intentional planning for a successful year. Now is the time students can identify ways they can leave a mark on campus through engagement in academic and co-curricular activities. To learn more about these things and ways to support your student, visit our website.

A Guide for Families: Talking with College Students About Alcohol and Other Drugs
Student safety and well-being are a top priority at Clemson. Alcohol and other drug use are well-recognized threats to college students' health, safety and academic success. Talk with your student about alcohol and drug use, and encourage them to be safe and responsible as they participate in tailgating and other social activities. View A Guide for Families: Talking with College Students About Alcohol and Other Drugs.

Beat the Crowds — Remind your Student to Get the Flu Vaccine
Student Health Services is now offering the flu vaccine at Redfern Health Center. No appointment is necessary. Encourage your student to get the flu shot now as it takes a couple of weeks to build up immunity. Visit our site to learn more and see flu shot hours.

There is No Spirit Quite Like the Clemson Tigers Spirit
More than 4,000 new Tigers met at Memorial Stadium on the Tuesday before classes began and formed a huge "CLEMSON" across the field. The Clemson University Band — who know a thing or two about stadium formations — was there to assist in this unique kick off to the new school year. It was a spectacular sight and just the first of many unforgettable memories they'll have as members of the Clemson Family. Check out a video of this wonderful moment.

Find your Adventure This Fall with CORE
School has started, the weather is cooling and it is a perfect time to get outside. Make sure your student checks out the Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) fall semester schedule to see the latest opportunities for fun and adventure in the outdoors. Rafting, paddle boarding, waterfall hikes and even surfing trips are just a few of the opportunities through CORE.

Clemson Recycling 101
Excited for the upcoming football season? So are we! When you are tailgating this fall, remember to put your recyclables in the recycling bags provided by the Gameday Recycling crew. Also, check out our paper towel composting pilot program in Cooper Library. Each public restroom now has a "paper towels only" bin, so rather than taking up space in a landfill, your used paper towels can be made into compost. Learn more about Clemson's Recycling Services and achievements here.

Set up Your Accessibility Accommodations for the 2016–17 year
Student Disability Services has a new name, Student Accessibility Services (SAS), effective July 1, 2016. The was changed to better align with their mission — to help identify barriers to full student inclusion on campus in the areas of physical access, curricular design, technology and software, and the structure of resources. To address these barriers, SAS may provide accommodations for students both in and out of the classroom to ensure full access to the Clemson Experience. SAS works with students with disabilities, but also with students who are facing barriers due to temporary conditions, such as injuries. The beginning of the academic year is a great time to schedule a meeting with a SAS staff member to discuss possible accommodations. Visit our site to learn more.

Is your Student Looking for a Part-Time Job or a Paid, On-Campus Internship?
If your student is searching for a part-time job, be sure they get connected with ClemsonJobLink. After first-year and transfer students have completed one full semester at Clemson, they are eligible for our University Professional Internship / Co-op Program (UPIC). UPIC is a paid, on-campus internship program where students take what they have learned in the classroom and apply it by working each semester with faculty and administration in one of more than 300 positions across campus. Once students have gotten acclimated to campus and classes, we invite them to come to the CCPD during our drop-in hours to learn more about the UPIC program.
