  Shannon FinningDear Parents and Families,

I hope your student is off to a great fall semester! For those of you who are parents/families of new students, you likely remember me sharing that I would invite you to engage in a dialogue with me during Family Weekend (October 10-12, 2014) during our ‘straight talk’ session at summer orientation. For those of you who are parents/families of returning students, I invite you to join me for one of these dialogue sessions as well! The open dialogue sessions (titled: Parents/Families Talk Back) will be held on Friday, October 10, from 4-5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, October 12, from 9:30-11 a.m. The intent of these sessions is for you, our parents and families, to “talk back” to me and my staff – to share your perceptions, questions and concerns and identify ways we can best work together moving forward to ensure individual and collective student success. I hope you will make the time to attend one of these sessions as your feedback and input is critically important to me and my staff! If you are unable to attend Family Weekend or one of these sessions, I invite you to send me a tweet @ShannonFinning or to contact me at finning@clemson.edu or 864-656-0935. I hope to see you Family Weekend!

Most sincerely,
Shannon

Class of '56 Academic Success Center
It is important to stay on top of your classes early on! By now, your student should be getting close to their first exams. For new students, the different types and amounts of coursework will be an adjustment. Many classes have much fewer grades, so it is important to focus on the assignments given. This is where the Academic Success Center can be your student’s best friend!

Be sure to make your student aware of our tutoring schedule for over 100 courses! The Academic Success Center also provides supplemental instruction options and over 50 workshops in the fall semester. There are also 32 online academic workshops on a variety of topics.

Have questions or want more information on our services? Please visit the Academic Success Center website.

Clemson Home Corner
We believe that an intentional residential experience is transformative and that there is significant growth that occurs for students outside of the classroom. At Clemson Home, we have trained Resident Assistants who are here to role model, mentor and connect students to resources across campus that will promote academic success. Be sure that your student is utilizing study groups, academic tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI) and many other resources provided by the Academic Success Center and other college offices.
