TIMELY INFORMATION

GraduationSTUDENT GRADUATING
The Office of New Student and Family Programs would like to send a big congratulations shout out to those of you with graduating seniors! What an exciting time for you and your student! We would like to send a few thoughts your way as your family undergoes another big transition. This is a memorable time, but don’t forget that for your student it can also be a time of high anxiety. Your student most likely has a lot of final assignments, is about to leave their “college home/friends,” is searching for a career and thinking of their entire world changing. Make sure to show a little extra encouragement and don’t be afraid to really tell them how proud you are of this major accomplishment!

Are you planning to come for commencement? If you haven’t yet, be sure to book your hotel rooms as soon as possible, and if you are planning to go out to a nice family dinner, reservations go quickly!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WITH FINANCIAL AID FOR THE SUMMER
Continuing upperclassmen will receive award notifications after spring grades are posted for all students. All loan applications should be submitted no later than June 15 and any additional documentation requests should be submitted by July 1 to ensure aid is processed by the tuition payment due date.

Upperclassmen who intend to participate in a co-op rotation or internship during the fall 2015 or spring 2016 semesters, who also have financial aid, should email the Office of Student Financial Aid to ensure their aid is deferred to the appropriate semester. Students who intend to graduate in December 2015 should also email this office to ensure their aid reflects their graduation status.

Rising sophomores with either the LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, who intend to receive the STEM enhancement during their sophomore year, should review their enhancement eligibility in regards to credit hours earned and qualifying STEM majors. This enhancement not only requires students to meet the qualifications of renewing their state scholarship, but also requires 14 credit hours earned in approved math and/or science courses and for the student to be in a qualified major (for example, General Engineering is not a qualified major for this enhancement; engineering students must be in one of the SPECIFIC disciplines listed on our website). For more information regarding this enhancement, please visit clemson.edu/financial-aid/life-enhanced.html.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
Summer brings an array of new opportunities and it’s no different here at Clemson University. In addition to regular summer courses for undergraduates and graduate students, Clemson offers research opportunities, credit courses, workshops and special programs for everyone from seventh-graders to working professionals.

Regardless of whether or not you’re a Clemson student, you can enjoy programs hosted by faculty and their departments, which are often connected to current research projects. Working professionals can recharge and learn pertinent information to take back to the classroom or workplace. No matter where you are in life, there's something for you this summer at Clemson. Check out more about our specific programs here!

Promoting Health and Wellness

BeachAs the spring semester comes to an end, remind your student to get enough sleep, exercise, eat well, prioritize tasks and try not to overcommit themselves. Preparing for final exams can be a stressful time, and it’s important that your student is physically and mentally prepared. Over the summer months, there are many ways your student can enjoy the warm weather while still practicing healthy behaviors. Encourage them to stay active (go for a run, swim or play volleyball—take advantage of the beautiful outdoors), maintain a healthy diet (stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season), use sunscreen and insect repellant and travel safely (learn about destinations and their local laws and customs, get recommended vaccines at least six weeks ahead of travel, pack smart, be prepared and never go anywhere alone). Remind your student to also keep their mind sharp—read the newspaper or a good book; do a crossword or Sudoku puzzle. CU 1010 is a 2-credit course designed to improve study skills and help students discover resources to help them be successful. Register for one of the sections in iRoar for the fall semester.
