Greetings from Tigertown!

The sun is shining and flowers are blooming. It is official — spring has sprung! Now that spring break is over, the semester will go by quickly. This is an exciting time of year, as students are thrilled for the warm weather and can get outdoors to enjoy it.

This is also a time of year when students start to think about transitioning to the next step. Seniors will be starting the job search, juniors might be thinking about internships or how to best utilize their summer, many sophomore and freshman may be thinking about ways to be more involved on campus and students will have also started selecting classes for the fall semester.

Sometimes it is hard to know if your student is thinking about their future. Use the list below as conversation starters when checking in on your student and their transitions.

Seniors — Have they met with the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) to finalize their résumé and cover letters and for interview and job search help? Have they thought about where they hope to be regionally? If so, remind them to think about the cost of living in different areas, etc.

Juniors — Has your student started thinking about how to utilize their last summer and year to be prepared for the start of their career? Have they built strong relationships with mentors or possible references for future positions? Have they taken advantage of internships or service opportunities? This may be their last free summer before a full time job; have they planned an enjoyable few months? Are they thinking about graduate school? If so, they need to begin the applications and consider GRE prep.

Freshman/Sophomores — Have they started planning internships for their last few years? Have they registered for classes for the fall term? How are they enjoying their major, and how are they doing in their major? If they plan to make a switch in major, sooner is better than later!

Transitions can be exciting, or they can be overwhelming. Talking through some of these questions with your student can help put them (and you) at ease, and to know they are preparing for their next step and thinking about their future.

We hope you enjoy the sunshine as it is approaching and look forward to seeing you at the Spring Family Reunion next week!

Warm wishes,

Paige Kegley
Associate Director of New Student and Family Programs

How Can Studying Abroad Benefit Students for Years After They Leave Their Host Country?
Whether your student goes abroad for a few weeks, one semester or an entire year, the lessons they learn and the perspectives they discover will stay with them long after graduation. Through a partnership with the CCPD, we hold workshops to teach students how to turn those amazing experiences into successful résumés, elevator pitches, interviews and jobs. Check out our website and weekly digest for more information!

Sneak Peak Back at Random Acts of Kindness Week
In honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week, the Dean of Students office hosted #CURAKweek February 16–18, which was designed to engage students in promoting random kindness acts for fellow strangers, peers and loved ones. Our students signed a Kindness Pledge, calling for students to commit to an act of kindness that could make the world a better place. Take a sneak peak of the RAK week!

Summer and Fall UPIC Internships
Freshmen and transfer students are eligible to apply for summer and fall UPIC positions. UPIC is Clemson’s paid, on-campus internship program where students take what they have learned in the classroom and apply it in over 200 areas of campus. We invite students to come to the CCPD office during their drop-in hours (1:30–4 p.m., Mon–Fri) to learn more about the UPIC program. Students can also view the positions on ClemsonJobLink.

Taking Advantage of the Sunshine This Spring and Summer!
The sun is out and students are eager to enjoy spring. Remind your student of the many Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) trips happening throughout the spring and summer months. Check out the upcoming trips and register for trips on the CORE webpage!
