The Scholar's Field Guide to Clemson University

Clemson University Light Imaging Facility (CLIF) The Clemson University Light Imaging Facility (CLIF) is a multi-user core light microscopy facility. In addition to a variety of state-of-the-art advanced light microscopes, CLIF offers researchers access to cytometry and sorting equipment, and users may utilize the BSL2 molecular biology laboratory to prepare samples for imaging. A variety of antibodies, stains, and specialty imaging dishes/plates are available for a nominal fee. CLIF periodically offers specialty workshops and courses about imaging and analysis techniques. Users may operate some equipment independently after completing a training session with a staff scientist. Alternatively, our staff is available to assist with imaging, image analysis, sample preparation and protocol development. Researchers may choose to pay for assistance with imaging projects via technician time fees; in some cases, a collaborative authorship agreement is a more appropriate route for crediting an imaging specialist’s expert contribution to your microscopy/cytometry project. All users are offered a professional consultation with one of our imaging experts prior to using our facility for any micros-copy or cytometry experiments. Contact imaging@clemson.edu to learn more. CLIF is equipped with: • Leica SP8X MP confocal with HyVolution • Leica SPE confocal • Leica THUNDER model organism imager • Leica GSD/TIRF widefiel • Leica M125 stereoscope • Leica Laser microdissection 6500 • Leica DM750P polarized light • Nikon Eclipse TiE • Cytoviva • Olympus LEXT OLS4100 optical profile • BioRad S3e cell sorter • GE IN Cell Analyzer 2500 HS • Invitrogen Countess cell counter • Invitrogen Tali cytometer • FlowJo flow cytometry analysis softwar – 19 –
