District 3 covers 5,386 square miles, encompassing the following counties:

In addition to the above cities, there are numerous small towns in the area. 42% of the population live in Urban areas, and 58% live in Rural areas (including .15% who live on farms). The racial composition of the area is 78% white, 21% black, and 1% other races. 52% of the population is female, with a median age of 33.5; 48% of the population is male, with a median age of 32.1. 75% of the people are voting-age. 62% of the males over age 15 are married, 27% have never been married, 2% are separated, 2.5% are widowed, and 6.3% are divorced. 55% of the females over age 15 are married, 21% have never been married, 3% are separated, 13.5% are widowed, and 7.2% are divorced. Of the 368,361 people who are over age 25, 64.3% have attained a high school degree or higher, and 14.4% have attained a bachelor's degree or higher. 94% of District 3 residents 16 years old or older are employed. 20% of workers are employed in management or professional positions;
25% in technical, sales, or support positions; 11% in service occupations;
9% in farming, fishing, or forestry; 16% in skilled labor; and 26% in unskilled
labor.
