CLEMSON — Clemson University announced organizational changes Friday designed to enhance overall public safety and emergency preparedness at all campus locations and properties statewide.
Jami Brothers, who has worked since 2007 with the Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) and as chief of police since May 2017, has been named assistant vice president for security planning and business continuity within the Division of Student Affairs. In this new role, Brothers will focus on security planning for all of the innovation campuses statewide and emergency preparedness efforts for the university. Brothers will report to Johnson Link, whose responsibilities will shift to focus more time on his role with emergency management as the associate vice president for emergency management and municipal services within Student Affairs.
“This is a new, exciting chapter in my career,” Brothers said. “I’ll take everything I’ve learned in 21 years of law enforcement and use it in this new role beyond the main university campus for all of our areas throughout the state. I’m looking forward to it.”
Brothers will officially start her new role on Monday, May 7.
“Jami has done a great job for CUPD, and we are excited to see her take on a new role for the institution,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Almeda Jacks. “We are happy for her to be leading us in this new role, as she builds more depth in our emergency management team.”
Greg Mullen, who recently retired as chief of police for the City of Charleston (S.C.), will serve as interim associate vice president for public safety and chief of police until a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis is completed. The position will report directly to the vice president for Student Affairs. Mullen spent 35 years as a member of the police force in Charleston and served as its chief from 2006–17.
A consultant for the past seven months, Mullen also will officially start on May 7.
“We are excited to welcome Greg to our Student Affairs team,” Jacks said. “He has extensive experience in law enforcement, which will benefit our campus and local community greatly. These changes further demonstrate Clemson’s commitment to ensuring that the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is our highest priority.”
