A NOTE FROM THE VP
|
October 23, 2017
|
Greetings from the Vice President’s office!
We have had a busy few weeks in Student Affairs. More than 2,600 students attended the Fall Career Fair, hosted by the Center for Career and Professional Development. Neil Burton and his staff deserve a big hand for putting on an outstanding event that attracted a record 323 employers to our campus! Many of our departments and student organizations contributed to a successful Homecoming weekend, with events such as Tigerama, the Homecoming pageant, Fall Fest, a concert on Bowman Field along with traditional displays and, of course, our win over Wake Forest. On a similar note, several of our areas will come together this week to take part in our second annual campuswide service day on Friday, Oct. 27. Thank you to our staff who will help facilitate student groups and to Campus Activities & Events for organizing the logistics.
This month, our Cabinet recognized a number of staff who have achieved 10, 20 and 30 years of service to Clemson University. We greatly value everyone’s efforts and commitment to the work we do to provide meaningful experiences for our students. We were extremely pleased to recognize these dedicated staff for exceptional contributions to Student Affairs and our university.
We continue to gain momentum with our capital projects. The Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center gained Phase II approval at the Board of Trustees meeting earlier this month. This phase includes a new educational building to support our outdoor recreational program, classroom space for land-based and aquatic programs, as well as new playing areas for club and intramural teams. Our fundraising efforts have been in high gear, as we received significant pledges to support this project at a Fall Family Weekend tailgate on the pool deck behind the Swann Fitness Center at Fike. We also received a second pillar donor gift of $500,000 to support the construction of the Samuel J. Cadden Chapel. Both projects are critical to enhancing the Clemson Experience for our students, and it is exciting to see the pieces continue to come together to make both a reality in the near future.
I want to close by offering our thoughts and prayers to those affected by recent tragedies. Many of our student groups have taken on active relief roles, and we certainly offer our encouragement and support as we move forward together in an effort to positively impact our community and the world.
