WELCOME HOME
August 22, 2017
|
It is my pleasure to welcome each and every one of you to a new and exciting academic year.
We have a number of fun events planned over the next couple of weeks. On Wednesday, we will hold our second annual Unity Lunch event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Core Campus. You are all invited to take part in the fun and enjoy food and entertainment. Later that evening, the Welcome Back Festival will take place downtown from 6 to 8 p.m. We also hope you’ll come out to the First Friday Parade on Sept. 1, as we prepare for the start of another thrilling football season.
Unity is a critically important issue in our country. We are so proud of our student leaders for the support shown toward those affected by the tragedy in Charlottesville, Va. earlier this month. Hatred, racism and violence have no place in our country and certainly not on our campus. Echoing President Clements’ comments to you in this video, we support our university’s efforts to maintain an inclusive environment where all students feel safe and welcome.
Safety will always be a critical part of your Clemson Experience. Recently, we were named the nation’s safest campus. This fall, we launch the ‘Celebrate Safely’ campaign to promote alcohol safety and bystander intervention programs so you are better prepared to assist fellow students in need. You will see ads for this campaign on and off campus, including our varsity athletics venues. We believe everyone wins when we celebrate safely and demonstrate good sportsmanship. Alcohol and other drugs are a threat to the well-being of students everywhere, so we hope you will explore the many resources we have online to live in a safe and responsible manner. Share the ways you #ExperienceWellness as we aim to celebrate safely together.
I encourage all students to follow me on Twitter (@Almeda_Jacks) for updates on what’s going on within the Division of Student Affairs. Please also refer to our home page to find resources to make your Clemson Experience even better.
On behalf of Student Affairs, we wish you a safe, happy and healthy year. Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
