INTERNSHIP SEARCHING TIPS

• Attend a drop-in or set up an individual appointment with a career counselor by calling 864-656-0440.

• Attend an internship workshop.

• Utilize ClemsonJobLink to sign up for on-campus interviews and to have access to national and international internship

listings.

• Target several organizations with which you would be interested in interning.

• See web resources at

clemson.edu/career.

• Contact your faculty or departments about opportunities.

• Attend career fairs.

• Network! Reach out to your professional network, friends and family to learn about opportunities.

• Research specialized internship programs such as semester away programs abroad or in other cities.

INTERNSHIP COURSE ENROLLMENT BENEFITS

The Center for Career and Professional Development offers internship courses (INT) through its Off-Campus Program,

International Internship Program and the UPIC Program. All of these courses provide the following benefits:

• Receive support from the Center during your internship to help you make the most of the experience.

• Covered by university policies such as liability protection, anti-discriminatio, and harassment policies. We can serve as

your advocate.

• The INT course will appear on your transcript providing an official credential of the experience. This can help you in

the competitive job search process at graduation.

• By being enrolled in an internship course, the income you earn from the internship is treated differently for financial

aid determination. It may also place your scholarships on pause, not start your federal student loan repayment plan

and keep you continuously enrolled for insurance purposes. You are strongly encouraged to speak with Student

Financial Services and Financial Aid prior to your internship experience to discuss your personal situation.

• Online courses allowing great flexibility in your internship locations and course schedules.

THE OFF-CAMPUS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Michelin Career Center assists both students who are interested in obtaining an internship in their desired field and

employers looking to develop internship programs and recruit Clemson students.

In addition to helping you locate internships, the Center offers both part-time and full-time, zero credit hour internship

courses for undergraduate students (INT 1010 and 2010 series) and graduate students (INT 8010). Why would you want to

take a zero-credit hour internship course? In addition to the general benefits listed above, here is why you should enroll in

the off-campus INT courses:

• Some employers require students to be enrolled in a course, especially if the internship is unpaid. This course is

available to students enrolled in majors without a credit-bearing internship course or for students who do not want to

pay tuition on an internship course.

• If you are interning on a full-time basis and not taking any courses during the fall or spring, registering for the full-time

course will keep you an “enrolled student.” Failing to remain an enrolled student will require you to reapply for

admission to the university.

• Provide the necessary coursework for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirements for international students.

• Course fee instead of tuition (only $200).
