About Mary

When Mary is not doing her homework, you can find her on social media sites including Facebook and Twitter. She also enjoys watching YouTube videos. Tasks

College Page

Mary began using the CAAH Department page as a portal page to the rest of the department as the main page does not have a link for "prospective students." Once she got the lay of the land of the site, she did not use it anymore because it does not include the information that she is looking for, which is namely information about programs and social media sites that allow her to feel the orange bloodline of the university.

Mary is very adept with technology and wants to have fun when visiting the site of a prospective university. She wants the life of the university to feel as if it is bouncing off the screen through videos of students and faculty members on the college page. What Mary is looking for and what would help her navigate the Department website: 1. A link for prospective students 2. Interactive videos and news items that allow her to see smiling faces 3. Fly out links that allow her to see what the left-navs links will be (example: the University of Nebraka's Arts and Science webpage). 4. RSS feeds that will allow her to subscribe to the latest news or social media sites

On the current page, she will leave the site by clicking on the department and programs page as it is the only link on the left-nav bar that is of interest to her (according to Google Analytics, 42% of visitors left the College page by clicking on this link between February 1, 2009 and November 23, 2009).

Department Page

This page has no important information, no pictures and is very confusing as it allows Mary to return back to Department & Degrees as it is a link in the left-nav (14% of visitors click on this link and return directly back to the page that they are currently on).

On this page, Mary wants more information of the Department and Degrees. For example, she wants to know what degrees are offered in the various departments (this applies to graduate degrees as well). She wants to know what departmental clubs are doing and wants the left-nav to change based on the page that she is on. The left-nav bar confused Mary because she doesn't know where to go from this page.

Once Mary established what degree program she was looking at in the college, she would use this page as a portal to her intended degree. On this page, Mary wants: 1. More information about what degrees are offered in each department 2. A different left-nav bar 3. More life on the page

Program Page

Mary ends up on the program webpage for languages as it is where the L&IT program is located. Once again, there is not a link for prospective students so Mary does not know where to go.

Mary's experience goal, "to enjoy her time on the university website and feel the life of students and faculty jump off the page," is not accomplished on this page. She does not feel the life of the program from this webpage and the page leaves her feeling confused because the links on the left hand side are not helpful.

Mary wants: 1. A link for prospective students 2. Pictures of the students and faculty who make up the degree programs 3. Less sentences describing the program and more interactive ways to get the feel of the program (videos, social media, RSS feeds to remind her of deadlines, etc.)
